My mom has a lot of strengths. Maybe an above-average number of strengths. I am being totally sincere and honest when I say this. She is a great mom, and an amazing cook. She has always built us up, taught us respect, manners, and how to use the telephone among MANY other things.
One thing that has historically not been a strength of my mom's is sending out Christmas cards. It is pretty understandable because besides all the business of the holidays, my sisters and I went through a combined 15 year awkward stage.
My sisters and I really give my mom a hard time about how she always picks the Christmas card that she looks the best in, without even glancing at the other members of our family. Case in point was last year's New year's card and my dad practically had his eyes closed.
Usually we are kidding, and we look fine enough, but a special year- I'm pretty sure it was '96- was the most embarrassing. That year was the worst. If you can't blow this picture up, I'd like you to know that those are MY UNDERWEAR. That little triangle of white. Yep, those are my undies. Combined with the glare on my glasses, I think I pretty much take the cake as the worst photographed of the Booth family, Christmas '96.
Carla, Miranda and my Dad look cute and adorable. My mom looks like a hot babe.
I found this scanned photo in a folder where we had saved old pictures for Miranda's wedding video montage. I started to laugh when I remember demanding my mom switch the card, but instead she used the gold pen she was using to sign our family's name and marked a tiny gold dot over my underwear triangle. She told me people would think her pen slipped and it was no big deal. I guess she knew it wouldn't be such a big deal in the long run.
I love you mom. Thank you for leaving Don't Sweat the Small Stuff; teen edition on the back of our toilet for all 4 years of high school. One of the best things you have taught me is that most things are not such a big deal anyway.
I do really regret those glasses. They had red frames. For a year straight I matched the bands on my braces with my red glasses. It was my favorite color.

this is so hilarious, i have also always had the suspicion that my mom always chooses the picture that she looks the best in regardless of whose underwear is showing. someday i'm sure we will do the same thing! at least we can be glad those lost years didn't last forever.
i'm glad you are catching up on the blogging.
I can't tell you how much I LOVE this picture! Everyone is priceless, but your mom looks beautifully the same.
Looks like the B I first met at girls camp....oh the good ole days with glasses.
oh my gosh, I am laughing out loud by myself right now (which by the way I never do). Thank you for sharing this gem! If you ever want to feel better come on over and I would be happy to share my awkward stage photos from age 8-20!
